Scandinavian countries are the most committed national development actors, according to this year’s Commitment to Development Index, which measures not just aid levels, but also how well other policies foster sustainable development. Germany ranked third, making it the first time a G-7 country is placed in the top three in CDI’s 15-year history.

The EU and Sweden have agreed to contribute €45m ($52m) to a project that aims to help protect marine biodiversity in the Pacific – and crack down on illegal activities such as fish ‘laundering’. The Pacific-European Union Marine Partnership Programme (PEUMP) – backed with €35m from the EU and €10m from Sweden’s government – will try to help regional organisations tackle issues like unsustainable fishing, the impact of climate change and exploitation of people working in the sector.
Consumer expectations and demands have a role to play in improving food safety in Africa, according to speakers at an event in Brussels this week. The briefing in the Belgian city was organized by the ACP-EU Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation, with the European Commission (DG DEVCO and DG SANTE), the ACP Secretariat, CONCORD and the Global Food Safety Partnership (GFSP).
The new French Ambassador to Haiti, José Gomez, believes that France and Haiti are united by a friendship rooted in shared values and language. "My mission and that of the Embassy is to further enrich this relationship so unique and strong," he said, adding that "the intensity of political exchanges between our two countries, including the interview in December 2017 between Presidents Emmanuel Macron and Jovenel Moïse, after the visit of President Hollande in May 2015, testifies to this mutual attachment.
