World-renowned for its industrial excellence and ability to innovate, Germany no longer wants to play merely a supporting role on the African continent. Although the political will of the world’s 4th largest economy is very real, the nervousness of German companies is currently a limiting factor.

The French IT school network will be opening a new campus in the Sèmè City of Information and Knowledge. Enrolment will open on the 6th October, for an academic year starting in February 2019. The first African campus for the French Epitech school will be based in Benin.

On the sidelines of the IFTM Top Resa International Tourism Fair 2018, Marie Christine Stephenson, the new Minister of Tourism, invited by the Ambassador of Haiti in Paris, Vanessa Lamothe Matignon, participated at the beginning of the week in a high-level tasting of Haitian chocolate, on a barge moored on the Seine.

Today the UK, Somalia, Italy and Ethiopia brought together international partners in support of Somalia’s security, political and economic reforms. Minister for Africa Harriett Baldwin co-hosted the meeting at the UN General Assembly in New York, with Foreign Minister Ahmed Isse Awad of Somalia, State Minister Hirut Zemene of Ethiopia and Enzo Moavero Milanesi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy.

The latest Eurobarometer survey shows that EU citizens increasingly view the private sector as having a greater role to play in international development, as well as seeing development cooperation as a means to address irregular migration. “European citizens back our efforts to boost private investment in development cooperation, deliver gender equality and address the root causes of irregular migration.
