The European Commission is proposing improvements to modernise and simplify the way in which fishing rules are monitored and complied with in the EU. An effective control system is key to ensuring that the EU's fisheries are sustainably managed, which in turn guarantees the long-term viability of the EU fishing sector and protects the livelihoods of our fishermen.

Farmers and herders in the Sahel Region of Africa will receive support on behalf of Sweden, said the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The Swedish International Development Cooperation (SIDA) is to allocate US$9.9mn in response to an appeal from the UN last month.

Eight ACP heads of government attended the G7 Summit in Quebec, Canada, namely, Jovenel Moïse: President of Haiti and Chair of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM, Andrew Holness: Prime Minister of Jamaica, Uhuru Kenyatta: President of Kenya, Hilda Heine: President of the Marshall Islands, Paul Kagame: President of Rwanda and Chair of the African Union, Macky Sall: President of Senegal, Danny Faure: President of Seychelles and Cyril Ramaphosa: President of South Africa.

The annual meeting of Ministers from the European Union and the countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific was an opportunity to hold fruitful and constructive discussions on the way forward for their future relationship and to take stock of the progress already made. The meeting, which took place in Lomé, Togo, was hosted by the President of Togo, Faure Gnassingbé and co-chaired by H.E. Ms Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica and H.E.
