According to a representative from the Belize Electricity Limited, Vonetta Burrell, Public Relations Manager, the current coverage of BEL in the country is at 92% and is expected to reach 98% by 2020. With a GOB-EU-BEL initiative over 200 communities and a total of 5,000 households in both new and existing communities will be impacted. The project will require approximately $35 million to achieve and as a part of achieving that, residents in Cowpen have received electricity for the first time. As a part of the European Union’s mission to improve lives, as well as that shared mission with BEL, several banana farms were beneficiaries of the project

The European Union (EU) has allocated over 484 million Euros under the 11th European Development Fund (EDF) to projects in Zambia. Zambia’s Secretary to the Treasury Fredson Yamba said the EU has disbursed the funds towards sectors such as Agriculture, Energy, Governance and Infrastructure for the period 2014 to 2020. This is according to a press statement made available to ZANIS by First Secretary Press and Public Relations at Zambia’s High Commission to South Africa Naomi Nyawali. And Zambia has sped up the absorption of over 80% of the 484 million Euros grants allocated to Zambia under the 11th European Development fund EDF.

In order to promote socio-economic activities in Niger Delta and promote peace through increased access to safe and sustainable water supply, the European Union has released 20 million euros to the region. ‎This was revealed recently in Uyo, the Akwa-Ibom State capital during a media dialogue on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) by UNICEF WASH specialist, Engr. Moustapha Niang. He said the project which is called the Niger Delta Support Project (NDSP) is a five-year project aimed at mitigating the conflict in the Niger-delta region by addressing causes of non-availability of potable water and bring lasting solutions.

Following the recent hurricane season and the experienced damage in the Caribbean, France has decided to move forward with stronger support for the geothermal project in St. Kitts, as reported by the Caribbean News Service. In a meeting this past weekend, Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris and Ian Liburd, Minister for Public Infrastructure held bilateral meetings with the Ambassador of France to St. Kitts and Nevis. The meeting was also attended by French Foreign Trade Advisor, Jacques Chouraki, also the President of Teranov Geothermal Energy. The company has been working on establishing the geothermal potential on St. Kitts together with the government. In its studies on the potential, it is estimated that at least 18 to 36 MW of geothermal power generation capacity could be developed on the island

The German Ambassador to Haiti, Manfred Auster, who took up his post around 12 months ago, on Thursday outlined the achievements of cooperation between Germany and Haiti since 2010. In that period, Germany has invested €115 million – or $135 million – in various projects in Haiti. Standing alongside representatives of German and Haitian organisations, the Ambassador underlined the financial and moral support given to the world’s first independent black republic. Ambassador Manfred Auster repeatedly underlined the strength of diplomatic ties between Haiti and Germany over the past ten years. Europe’s strongest economy has invested €115 million or $135 million in various projects in Haiti.

Represented by its Minister of Economy and Finance, the Guinean government on Friday 29 September signed two agreements with the European Union (EU) represented by its Head of Delegation in Conakry, Gerardus Giélen. The signing, which took place in the conference room of the Ministry of Economy, was also attended by the Minister of State responsible for Security and Civil Protection, his counterpart for the Environment and Water and Forests, as well as numerous guests and development partners. The agreements concerned two projects that will lead to very concrete results in terms of training, equipment, improvement of services, improvement of relations between the security forces and the civilian population, protection of the environment and combating human trafficking.

The European Union plans to invest 27 billion CFA francs in the development of transport and the upkeep of the national road transport network. This was the information given by the EU ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire, Jean-François Valette, on 21 September 2017, during a ceremony for grants given to the Ministries of Transport and Economic Infrastructure. The ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Office for Road Safety (Oser) in Marcory. The ambassador said the EU intended to reinforce its support for the Ivorian government in the development of transport and the road network.

As the federal government continues its advocacy for greater farming,communities in Southern Kaduna have taken the gauntlet and returned to their farms. LEADERSHIP visit to Fadan Kagoma, Jemaa local government in Kaduna State showed the land green as almost every parcel is now cultivated. Most common produce seen on the farms include ginger, groundnuts, maize and Guinea corn. Speaking with Leadership a small holder farmer, Mrs Joy Bulus said this year almost everybody returned to the farm. She said "things have been so hard for everybody that the only option is to return to the farm. As it is ,it is most rewarding and no matter how hard it is one cannot complain of the rewards of farming,because no,matter how hard it is there would always be food and even a little extra for other things"

The historical background of organic agriculture in Tanzania goes back to the world history of agriculture, when people were farming more traditionally. This is to say modern organic farming still has roots from the first half of the 20th century, when there was growing reliance on non-organic methods. After the industrial revolution had introduced synthetic methods, most of which were not well-developed and had serious side effects, an organic movement began in the 1940s, as a reaction to agriculture's growing reliance on synthetic fertilisers and pesticides.

In the months since it took office in January, The Gambia's new government has made trade an important part of its plans for growth, job creation, and democratic consolidation. The country featured prominently at the recent Aid for Trade Global Review at World Trade Organization headquarters in Geneva. Vice-President Fatoumata Tambajang, Minister of Trade, Regional Integration and Employment Isatou Touray and Minister of Tourism Hamat Bah attended the 11-12 July gathering, which they used to showcase domestic policy reforms and urge aid donors and the private sector to invest in building supply-side capacity in The Gambia. The International Trade Centre has been working to support The Gambia's efforts to develop trade capacity for inclusive economic growth, with a focus on creating jobs for youth and women.
