Energy commissioner Günther Oettinger and climate action commissioner Connie Hedegaard have announced commission proposals to cap the production of food-based biofuels at the present levels. The proposal, announced on 17 October 2012, aims to limit the use of food-based biofuels to five per cent in an attempt to stimulate the development of alternative biofuels, which emit fewer greenhouse gases. Both commissioners told stakeholders that, while the current proposal is not perfect it is still important.
9th Regional Briefing: Building Resilience to Climate Change and Greening the Economy in the Pacific
The ACP-EU Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), in collaboration with the Embassy of Vanuatu and with the Pacific Group of Ambassadors, will organise the 9th regional Briefing on 'Building Resilience to Climate Change and Greening the Economy in the Pacific', which will be hosted by the Government of Vanuatu.
More than a year after the Commission unveiled its proposals for new legislation, and following passionate debates, public hearings and expert workshops, Parliament's agriculture committee is preparing to vote on four core regulations that should pave the way for a fairer, greener, more efficient and more competitive EU farm policy.
