‘Revolutionising finance for agri-value chains‘– this is the theme of the next Brussels Development Briefing – organized by the Technical Centre for Agriculture (CTA), together with the DG Development and Cooperation of the European Commission (EC/DEVCO), the ACP Secretariat and the European NGO confederation for Relief and Development, Concord. The event will take place on Wednesday 5 March 2014 at the ACP Secretariat, in Brussels.
The European Commission (EC) has released the December 2013 edition of ”Commodity price data”, a price dashboard which provides a summary of commodity price data for the most representative agricultural products and consumer food prices, at European Union (EU) and world level for the month or December. Although not all the products are comparable at both EU and world level, this document is intended to give an indication on the most recent price developments.
The3294th Council meeting on Economic and Financial Affairs held in Brussels on 18 February 2014 adopted a decision authorising the Commission to open negotiations on behalf of the EU for a renewal of the protocol to the fisheries partnership agreement with Mauritania. The current protocol should apply until December 2014. The new protocol should be in line with the Council's conclusions of 19 March 2012 on the Commission's communication of July 2011 on the external dimension of the Common Fisheries Policy (CRP), as well as regulation 1380/2013 on the CRP.
The plethora of organisations targeting regional integration in the East African zone has been highlighted as an area of concern by members of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (JPA). Following its 11th regional meeting, held in Mauritius for the East African region two weeks ago, the JPA released a communiqué calling for “the harmonisation and rationalisation of regional integration processes, given the multiple and overlapping memberships of regional organisations, which could compromise the objective of integration.”
