On 15th October 2018, the French Development Agency (Agence Française de Développement – AFD) announced the third edition of its Digital Challenge, which promotes the work of entrepreneurs involved in the African digital revolution. It is a competition for start-ups and digital innovation, which this year has set an objective to encourage social, cultural and political inclusion for African women. “This edition ‘Innovation for African Women’ is focused on the promotion of gender equality on the African continent. The competition is open for African start-ups, as well as project stakeholders from all over the world, who propose innovative development solutions which help African women through the power of digital,” said a press release from the AFD, which outlines that candidates have until 12th November 2018 to submit their applications online at http://afddigitalchallenge.afd.fr. The competition will see three main prizes awarded to the winners: The Digital Africa Initiative, with a prize fund of €15,000 – this will reward two companies in start-up phase, which demonstrate outstanding innovation capabilities; The Digital Africa Success, with a prize fund of €50,000, will go to two companies in growth phase, which demonstrate exceptional development and expansion capacities.
