The UK currently accounts for 20 percent of the EU’s banana market, leaving African producers concerned that London will opt to import cheaper American banana after Brexit. Britons consume around 1.1 million metric tons of bananas a year, according to African banana lobby Afruibana. There is ongoing negotiations about how the EU and UK could divide food import quotas after Brexit.

On 12 September, on the occasion of his State of the Union Address, President Jean-Claude Juncker said: "Africa does not need charity, it needs true and fair partnership. And we, Europeans need this partnership just as much. Today, we are proposing a new Alliance for Sustainable Investment and Jobs between Europe and Africa.

Strong growth and digitalisation in Africa, makes it the perfect destination for Nordic firms and organisations looking for dynamic new markets and opportunities. At the same time, promising players in Africa can harness Nordic strengths in technology and sustainability for profitable investments in areas touched by continental mega-trends, such as population growth, urbanisation, and the rise of digital currencies, digital trade and growing infrastructure spending.

AfroEuro Foundation in collaboration with The Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in The Netherlands, Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and Ghana Investment Promotion Council (GIPC) wish to announce to the public that this year’s Netherlands-Ghana Business Fair would take place from 27th – 29TH September 2018.

When it comes to increasing investment in the African, Caribbean and Pacific countries covered by the Cotonou Agreement, the EU talks a good game. But it is facing stiff competition from China, armed with more cash and fewer concerns about democracy and the rule of law when it comes to investment. The recently established Trust Fund for Africa and the soon-to-be-expanded European External Investment Plan are the EU’s latest Africa-focused investment vehicles.

AFRICAN Development Bank (AfDB) president Akinwumi Adesina has told the Dutch government and business leaders that Africa is open and ready to do business. And Adesina says the Bank’s greatest agenda is to unlock Africa’s agricultural potential.

The Department for International Development (DFID) has announced to provide a further US$71.11mn to support AgDevCo's mission to create jobs, improve food security and boost prosperity in Africa The announcement is a part of Prime Minister Theresa May's visit to Africa.
