The most vulnerable of the urban population in Lagos are among beneficiaries of a N4 billion loan procured by the Lagos Government. Part of the loan is meant for enhancing the management and treatment of solid waste as well as strengthening the capacities of the State Government to implement integrated urban development projects. Details of the projects released by Hugo Pierrel, the Acting Country Director, of the Agence Francaise de Developement, AFD, (French Agency for Development), as part of its annual report also indicates that there was another loan of $33 million for an Ogun State Urban Water Supply Project, targeted at increasing the coverage steadiness and the quality of water supply in the State capital (Abeokuta).

Netherlands has unveiled a Euro 3,5 million ($3,9 million) fund to mitigate the effects of the El Nino induced drought through a number of strategies including providing crop and livestock inputs in the affected areas. A total of seven non-governmental organisations namely; Plan International Zimbabwe, Terres De Homes, World Vision, International Rescue committee, Cordaid and ICCO/Act-Alliance have joined hands under Zimbabwe Joint Drought Response (ZIMJR) Initiative to implement the project.
The St. Peter's Church Aided High School of England has donated maize worth K2 million to nearly 400 families of Sub-Traditional Authority (STA) Chitanthamapiri in Kasungu. The donation follows media reports on how badly the area had been affected by the dry spell most parts of the country experienced during the 2015/2016 growing season. The area under Chitanthamapiri's jurisdiction received almost no rain the past season resulting into complete loss of every crop the subjects had sown.
The Netherlands has affirmed that it would continue focusing on providing Tanzania with knowledge and skills on priority sector of agriculture and food security in helping the country's transformation. Deputy Head of Mission, Ms Hinke Nauta, said in Dar es Salaam recently that the agriculture and food security gained more attention because the Netherlands and Tanzania have longstanding cooperation on the sector. She noted this at the Embassy in Dar es Salaam during the farewell part for 50 Tanzanians who have been selected under the Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP) to go for studies in Netherlands.
United Kingdom's (UK) Department for International Development (DfID) has given Malawi £24 million (about K23 billion) as a contribution to the government's National Disaster Response Plan, the British High Commission in Lilongwe has said . A statement made available to Nyasa Times says the UK Development Minister Nick Hurd , confirmed the support on Wednesday during a telephone conversation with President Peter Mutharika. The support from the UK will assist some of the 6.5 million people identified by the Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee (MVAC) food security assessment as requiring emergency food/cash assistance over the next nine months.
A “ground-breaking” international treaty to combat fishing pirates took effect Sunday, becoming legally binding in 29 countries that so far have adhered to it, the UN’s food agency said. Under it, countries are legally required to inspect trawlers when they enter their ports for signs of illicit catches. “This is a great day in the continuing effort to build sustainable fisheries that can help feed the world,” said Graziano da Silva, director general of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). We hail those countries that have already signed on to the agreement and who will begin implementing it as of today.
