Born of British and French colonial rivalry in the 19th century and surrounded by francophone Senegal, Gambia - a tourist haven and groundnut producer - won independence from Britain in 1965.

Jamaica’s minister of foreign affairs and foreign trade, Senator Kamina Johnson-Smith, says the technical work for the rollover of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) into a new CARIFORUM-United Kingdom trade arrangement post-Brexit is close to being finalised.

The ACP Secretariat and the Intra-ACP GCCA+ Programme organised an Info-point Lunch time conference at the External Cooperation Info point of DG DEVCO on the 17th October 2018. The event presented the Intra-ACP GCCA+ Programme and the Climate Support Facility (CSF) services set up to provide demand-driven, short-term technical assistance and training on climate change to ACP regional organisations and countries, as a complement to other components of the Programme.

A new high-level platform initiative brings together key players in the sustainable energy sector from the public and private sectors of both Europe and Africa. Today at the Africa Investment Forum in Johannesburg organised by the African Development Bank, the European Union and the African Union have launched the EU-Africa high-level platform on sustainable energy investments in Africa.

The United Kingdom has pledged $920,000 million to support projects in Angola, a British official confirmed. The British Trade Envoy, Baroness Lindsay Northover, who arrived in Luanda Wednesday for a three-day visit, said her country would help in the construction and maintenance of electrical substations in Luanda and Cuanza Sul provinces.

The President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Brigadier Julius Maada Bio, reiterated his country's full support for the vision of the ACP Group of States and recalled how his country's relations with the EU have been deepened and strengthened through all successive ACP-EU conventions and partnership agreements, at a special meeting with ACP State representatives in Brussels yesterday.

A new model of collaboration between the EU and Africa can change today’s dangerous turn of international relations, which have moved from “win-win” solutions and are now based on “zero-sum” games, EU’s top diplomat Federica Mogherini said. Speaking at the ‘Africa Week’ conference on 7 November organised by the Socialists and Democrat group in the European Parliament (S&D), Mogherini noted that the world is facing the return to a more dangerous way of understanding global politics.

Together with EABC, we want to support regional economic integration in East Africa and help to create networks between German and East-African businesses and policymakers. Representatives of the BDI met with EABC in Arusha to get the ball rolling.
