Over the next four years Denmark will contribute more than one billion DKK to basic education through the Global Partnership for Education, and will thus be the third largest contributor. At the same time developing countries will increase their own allocations to education by more than 10 billion DKK (1.34 billion EUR) during the same period.

The 3124th Council meeting on Foreign Affairs adopted conclusions that constitute the EU position with a view to conducting the performance review of the 10th European Development Fund together with the ACP states (16461/11), adopted conclusions on the annual report concerning the EU's development and external assistance policies and their implementation in 2010 (16768/11) and considered proposals for the future approach to EU budget support to third countries (15561/11).

Lomé, the capital of Togo, will host a meeting of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly from 16 to 23 November, the Vice-President of the Togolese National Assembly, Sélom Komi Klassou, told the press on Monday. Apart from recommendations and resolutions which are set to conclude the meeting, discussions and debates about the food situation in Africa, access to medication, the Arab Spring and its repercussions as well as the proliferation of weapons in the world are planned.

Ownership and accountability are two of the main aspects that the EU wants to stress at the 4th High-level Forum on Aid effectiveness from 29 November to 1 December in Busan, South Korea. The Foreign Affairs Council this week issued the EU’s position for the forum, after the Commission had published a communication on the subject in September and the European Parliament had outlined its position in October.

The European Parliament adopted a resolution on 16 November setting out its position on the forthcoming UN climate summit in Durban (COP17) and its demands for the EU position. The Greens welcomed the clear message calling for the EU to commit to continuing the Kyoto Protocol, a key issue for the forthcoming summit.

Nine non-governmental groups in Antigua & Barbuda have united to form a Non-State Actors Advisory Committee to work with the European Development Fund (EDF) and the government in formulating developmental objectives and paths, particularly as they relate to EU-funded programmes and projects.

With its new list of cooperation countries the BMZ is putting into practice yet another point set out in the Coalition Agreement, namely to focus on working with a limited number of countries within the context of bilateral development cooperation and the European and international division of labour. In the future, instead of working with 58 countries, as was the case at the start of the present legislative period, there will be just 50 developing coun­tries where the Ministry is engaged in bilateral country programmes with the full spectrum of official de­vel­op­ment assistance instru­ments.

European Union is set to partner with the Federal Government on job creation, in a bid to address the issue of unemployment in the country. Head of European Union Delegation, Nigeria and Ecowas, Mr. David Macrae, stated this when he met with the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu, recently in Abuja. Marcrae expressed the organisation's willingness to assist Nigeria in the fight against unemployment especially in line with the transformational agenda of the government.
