The European Commission has approved a new financing mechanism for young people, migrants and women entrepreneurs in sub-Saharan African and the southern Mediterranean, in a programme to be managed by the Dutch Development Finance Company (FMO).

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Global Agriculture and Food Security Programme will jointly provide a $4 million loan to Global Tea & Commodities, a London-based company that produces tea, coffee and Macadamia nuts for the European Union, the United States, Asia and Africa.

The purpose of the negotiations is to conclude a strengthened Partnership between the European Union (EU) and its Member States of the one part, and the countries of Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific of the other part. The new Agreement is envisaged as a comprehensive partnership with the aim to strengthen the relations between the Parties and generating mutually beneficial outcomes on common and intersected interests.

The Director-General for International Cooperation and Development of the European Commission, Stefano Manservisi, this week on the Cape Verdean island of Sal signed off on additional funding of €10 million in budget support to Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), according to a statement from the delegation of the European Union in the West African archipelago.

This proposal is made in the context of the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2021- 2027 as outlined in the communication ‘A modern Budget for a Union that Protects, Empowers and Defends – The Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027’1 from the Commission to the European Parliament, the European Council and the Council, the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions.
