A global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) has called on the European Union and African leaders to put nutrition at the heart of Africa’s development. The organization said Africa and EU must scale up nutrition investments as part of meeting UN anti-poverty goals.

The European Union (EU) has a hidden agenda in its trade negotiations with the East African Community (EAC), which is not open to Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), policy expert has said. Dr Arndt Hopfmann, regional director for Africa at the Berlin-based Centre for International Dialogue and Cooperation, believes that there is some kind of collaboration between some African leaders, negotiators and the EU on the ongoing trade negations referred to as Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).

From 22 to 23 November 2010, EPA Group Senior Officials from the European Union (EU) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) met in Maputo, Mozambique, to hold talks on the economic partnership agreements.
