Even before EU Member States have decided how to divide up efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the 27-country bloc has requested the European Commission to prepare an impact assessment on the effect of a 30% reduction by 2020. A number of Member States are reluctant to commit to a 30% reduction in greenhouse gases.

Today, the Commission adopted a €190 million support package for banana exporters from African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) states. This proposal was part of the historic Geneva Agreement on Trade in Bananas. The EU concluded this deal with Latin American countries and the US in December 2009 which settles 15 years banana disputes.
German development agency, GTZ, is planning to install 15 000 solar energy systems per month in Ethiopia, where only less than one percent of the rural population uses solar power because of inadequate investment in the sector. GTZ projects in Ethiopia include developing solar, hydroelectric and wind power systems.
The report from Institute for Development and Peace asks for the determining factors and specific challenges of development cooperation after war and violent conflict. Based on an extensive review of current literature, the report identifies six issue areas relevant to development cooperation. Furthermore, relevant actors and policies of select donors are analyzed.
