Trade and Industry Minister Paula Gopee- Scoon on Tuesday called upon local businesses to increase exports to the EU as a means of addressing the revenue shortfall caused by depressed oil and gas prices. “We look forward to all of you contributing to the revenues of Trinidad and Tobago,” the Minister told representatives of companies gathered at the Courtyard Marriot, Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain, where the Exportt company launched an export stimulation project.  “It’s your success and the country’s success as well.” The Minister said the private sector has a key role to play in the economy.  “The role of the private sector is crucial in the development of any economy,” Gopee-Scoon said.

“This financing will enable EFC Uganda to support job creation in Uganda. It will provide access to finance for MSEs in Uganda which will stimulate economic development and innovation,” Nanno Kleiterp, the CEO of FMO said.  He said: “EFC Uganda is a valuable addition to our relationship with EFC Tanzania and EFC Zambia, as well as with Développement International Desjardins. We look forward to expand our cooperation and continue to develop much needed financing solutions together.”

During the climate negotiations in Paris, representatives of African governments announced the launch of the AFR100 initiative. This strategy aims to restore almost 100 million hectares of forest and woodland in Africa between now and 2030. The New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the World Resources Institute (WRI) have contributed to the launch of AFR100.
