The Brussels Development Briefing n.40 on “Data: the next revolution for agriculture in ACP countries?” was held in Brussels on 18th February 2015 and brought together 155 participants representing  ACP-EU policy makers, regional organizations, representatives of EU Member States, European Commission services, Members of the European Parliament, private sector, civil society groups, European research and development practitioners and international organizations.

On 20th of February 2015, the European Commission External Cooperation Infopoint held a conference on “The Future of Foreign Aid”. Dr. Nicos Yannis, Project Management, DEVCO R7- Training, Knowledge Management and Document Management Presentation, introduced the work of the knowledge management unit. Ms. Nicoletta Merlo, Deputy Head of Unit in DEVCO A1 - Policy and Coherence, explained the main features of the EU Agenda for change and ‘differntiation’. She also highlighted the importance of policy coherence for development which is enshrined in Art. 208 TEU. Ms. Cristina Maglaviceanu, Trainee in the NEAR Unit C1- Geographical Coordination Neighbourhood East presented the book, “The Future of Foreign Aid” by Andy Sumner and Richard Mallet.

EU's foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, launched the European Year for Development in Madrid, at the by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and Cooperación Española. Mogherini stated that the EU’s development policy was neither charity or a luxury but an “investment for peace and stability” around the globe. Rather, she emphasized that a strong EU development policy is essential to help maintain the world's stability. According to the last Eurobarometer, Spain was ranked among the most generous countries in terms of development aid. “2015 can be an historic year […] the start of the global age,” Mogherini said.
