The last Brussels Briefing on “New challenges and opportunities for pastoralism in African, Caribbean and Pacific countries” took place on 22nd February, 2012. More than 150 ambassadors, policy-makers, NGO representatives and member state delegates followed the discussions. A wider audience followed discussions through a live webstream and participated via email and Twitter.
A documentation of the conference including a conference report, photos and the video documentation of the briefing will be published here. You can already download the speakers’ PowerPoint presentations and their executive summaries from this page.
The next Brussels Briefing will focus on "Small island economies: from vulnerabilities to opportunities" and will be held on April 4th, 2012, in the Borschette building of the European Commission.

The Migration Policy Institute (MPI) Europe, which is a non-profit, independent research institute that aims to provide a better understanding of migration in Europe, will be launched next week. MPI Europe will host a panel discussion in Brussels, entitled “Rethinking European Identity in the Age of Immigration”.  EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmström and former UK Home Secretary Charles Clarke will attend the event.

According to African Agriculture, even if the latest study on  ISAAA (International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-Biotech Applications), which focus on global trends in regards to gene-modified (GM) crops, seems to have better reception, some disagreement remains in Europe.

EU rules appear to encourage discussion again. As import restrictions have forced 30 staff of a sugar refinery in London into unemployment and resulted in a halting of weekend production, Marina Yannakoudakis,  British MEP advices the European Commission to relax the rules.
