The next Brussels Development Briefing will be held on the 14 September 2011 and will be organised in partnership with the NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency. We will discuss the main challenges involved in rural transformation processes by sharing different perspectives on rural transformation processes across continents. We will then focus on rural employment and rural labour markets needed to create growth and economic development.

Fresh produce exporters to European Union (EU) markets are counting gains as the stronger euro boosted their earnings after it hit record-highs against the shilling. The shilling has shed 30 per cent of its value against the euro in the past seven months -- a move that has seen flower and fruit exporters gain an extra Sh30 for every unit of produce they sell to the EU.

The European Union, EU, and the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF, are to partner Anambra State for the provision of one hundred percent access to sanitation, hygiene and improved water supply to selected communities in Ogbaru local government area of the state. Ogbaru is one of the six local governments in the state designated for fighting abject poverty and improving infrastructure.

Rising global demand for cleaner energy from biomass could drive more land acquisition in poorer nations where food security and land rights are weak, according to an International Institute for Environment and Development report released on 30 August.
