Burundi: workshop on the promotion of exports and re-exports

The Vice-President of Burundi, Gervais Rufykiri, held a workshop on Friday to explore strategies for the promotion of exports and re-exports.
"The current exchange workshop provides an appropriate framework which is offered to you to explore all the possibilities and necessary strategies for the promotion of exports and re-exports in our country, which already has many strengths,” said Mr. Rufykiri.
As one of the strengths, he mentioned the dynamic of the country in regional integration that offers opportunities in regional groups to which it belongs, such as the East African Community, the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).
The other asset that the Minister refers to is related to the benefits that Burundi has on the European Union market as one of the least developed countries in the negotiations of an EU-EAC economic partnership.
"This agreement being negotiated will enable us to keep the benefits that this region of the EAC has on the European market", said Mr. Rufyikiri.
The third strength of Burundi is its geographical location favourable for re-exports activities in neighbouring countries.
For now, Burundi primarily earns currency on coffee and tea exports and would like to develop its exports.
