ACP Heads of State and Government to meet in Suriname

The 8th ACP Summit of Heads of State and Government will take place on 6-7 November in Paramaribo, Suriname. The theme covered will be “Repositioning the ACP Group to fulfill the aspirations of our Peoples.”
During this Summit, key development issues will be addressed by the leaders of 79 member countries from Sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean and Pacific regions. Special attention will be given to the post-2015 agenda, human security, climate change, trade and private sector growth, and development finance.
South-South and Intra-ACP cooperation will also be discussed. Talks regarding the future orientation of the organisation after the end of the Cotonou Partnership Agreement in 2020 are also on the agenda.
This year’s summit is especially crucial, as leaders are also expected to take a decision on the final report of the Eminent Persons Group (EPG) on the Future of the ACP. The panel is currently reviewing the past successes and failures of the ACP Group as an organisation. It will submit recommendations to the Summit on how to the Group can be more effective and relevant on the global stage.
The main plenary sessions for ACP Heads of State and Government will be follow meetings at the ministerial level.
