Ghana, EU sign 1.5bn euro grant to support the agricultural sector

Ghana and the EU have concluded a four-year 1.5 billion Euros grant agreement to support the country’s agricultural sector and social protection development agenda. After the signing of the agreement, Claude Marten, EU Ambassador in Ghana, explained that the EU is convinced about the political, social and economic achievements of Ghana and is thus committed to assist this country with this grant.
Ghana’s Deputy Finance Minister, Casey Ato Forson, said the grant would be used for the socio-economic development. However some civil society organizations which have been critical of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) consider that the grant is an attempt to convince Ghana to sign the controversial EPA pact.
