Video Guest: Prof. Eric Tollens, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium

In this week’s CTA Brussels video interview, Prof. Eric Tollens, Professor at the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering (FBSE) of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, tells us a bit more about agricultural research and development (ARD). He explains how agricultural research and extension projects support innovation by smallholder farmers and reduce rural poverty. He is the chairman of the Executive Board of CTA since 2013. He has a very long experience in research having worked with the major research organizations and also having practical experience in Africa.
On the 14th of November 2013, Tollens chaired the second of the Brussels Briefing on the “farmer-driven research to improve food and nutrition security” organized by CTA Brussels at the Jacques Delors Building (in Brussels). This panel presented concrete examples of farmer-driven ARD successes from the field, highlighting the lessons learned and good practices of partnership between smallholders and other actors in ARD.
