Franco-German alliance on agricultural budget

After  visit by the French Minister of Agriculture in Berlin, France and Germany announced a common front on maintaining the CAP budget for the period of 2014-2020. The financial allocation to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for the coming years has been challenged during the last round of negotiations in Brussels. Being the first item of expenditure of the European Union, it has been the target of many attacks.
France and Germany, the main beneficiaries of the CAP, have decided to retaliate by announcing a common position on the maintenance of the agricultural budget to the nominal level of 2013 for the period 2014-2020. This approach was reached after a visit by the French Minister of Agriculture, Stéphane Le Foll in Berlin, on 9 October 2012, where he met his counterpart, Ilse Aigner.
