Finland development aid budget to focus primarily on Sub-Saharan Africa

According to recent updates, Finland will allocate a great part of  its humanitarian assistance budget  to countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, specifically Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan and those in the Sahel. Recently, the country’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs granted a total of €67.6 million in humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of people in crisis situations around the world, however lower than last year.
The country will provide €20.1 million  to Somalia , Sudan and South Sudan. For the Sahel, Finland is expected to allocate around €8.4 million, mainly  in response to the food crisis in the region. The Democratic Republic of Congo, along with  the surrounding central African region and the Great Lakes area ,will benefit some €5 million.
Targets of assistance outside Africa will include Haiti.
