A strategy to encourage bio-economy

Following warnings that point out that  Europe is “too slow and too piecemeal” in developing a sustainable economy, the European Commission has unveiled its strategy to encourage development of the ‘bio-economy’ through investment and innovation.
According to EurActiv, the EC has announced plans to address food and energy needs as well as promote resource efficiency through a more nimble and sustainable economy. Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, commissioner for research, innovation and science, stressed policy actions, either at EU o EU member state’s level, are likely to be launched in isolation.
The bio-economy strategy reflects the Commission’s current focus on improving resource efficiency, conserving natural resources and shifting to renewable energy while promoting economic growth.
