Talks with Nigeria amid unrest

Amid unrest, Danish Foreign Minister Villy Soevndal visited Nigeria this week for talks with President Goodluck Jonathan and other officials. As the Danish EU presidency noted in a statement, Mr. Soevndal represented EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton.
The Danish Foreign Minister expressed his concerns about the situation in the most populous nation in Africa: "Nigeria has recently been plagued by riots and acts of terrorism, and right now it's incredibly important that (the) EU shows solidarity with the Nigerian people". Though talks between the parties focused on the current instability in the country, Mr. Soevndal and  President Goodluck also discussed EU-Nigeria cooperation.
