EU humanitarian aid management needs work

MEPs recently passed a regulation criticising the EU humanitarian aid management. Notably, they challenge the manner by which EU funds are funnelled through the United Nations.  As stressed by Martin Ehrenhauser, who prepared the resolution, “Humanitarian aid targets the ones that need it most. Every inefficiency costs human lives”.
Parliament asks the European Commission's humanitarian aid and civil protection department  (ECHO) for more efficient and less bureaucratic aid-management, without sacrificing a high level of accountability and transparency. It also wants the Commission to assess the reliability of potential partner organisations better, so as to ensure that their management systems are in order.
