Export and import of hazardous chemicals

In public deliberation, the Environment Council took into account a progress report on the proposal for a regulation concerning the export and import of hazardous chemicals. The aim of the proposal  is to replace regulation, which implements the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure (PIC) for certain hazardous chemicals and pesticides in international trade.
Provisions therein go beyond those of the Convention  offering  further protection to importing:  these are not only addressed to the Parties of the Convention but all countries. Furthermore, the proposed new regulation also covers those chemicals at EU level.
