In response to the last political developments in Madagascar, EU’s position changes before the country. Though under some conditions, the EU will support transition in Magadascar as well as boost progressive development cooperation therein.

The EU, which has actively supported the efforts of mediation, notably carried out by the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and the African Union (AU), welcomed the signature of the "Roadmap" which put an end to the Madagascar’s crisis last 16th September, 2011.

Catherine Ashton, high representative of the Union for foreign affairs and security policy, declared to be glad the political situation of Madagascar has changed and stated the EU will support, though with conditions, the transition in the country.

Likewise, M. Andris Pielbags, Development Commissioner, has welcomed the progress achieved in the country and highlighted that "several Population Support Programmes are already under the course of preparing".
