COP17 in Durban: EU and Africa on same wavelength

Overall, the EU and Africa agree: it is essential to find a means to give the upcoming Durban conference enough impulse to keep the process of negotiation on climate change going. Both parties also agree on promoting strong cooperation between the EU and Africa in areas such as peace, security and economic development, which are all linked, in one way or another, to climate change. The high-level round-table organised in Brussels, on 14 October, by the European Commission gathered the representatives and experts of the EU (27 member states) and of the African Union (24 member states).

The objective was to find, through extensive dialogue, common bases ahead of the global climate change conference in Durban, South Africa (28 November-9 December). The EU received the confirmation that it has the support of African countries in its crusade to keep the negotiation process on climate change alive.
