Emergency food aid for Tanzania

Development Cooperation Minister Armand De Decker has decided to award Tanzania 250,000 euros worth of emergency food aid.
According to the authorities in Tanzania, which is a partner country of Belgian Development Cooperation and has nearly 34 million inhabitants, the country has been hit by serious food shortages caused by persistent droughts associated with irregular and random rainfall which have affected nearly 600,000 people spread over the country's 12 main rural provinces.
Given the often recurrent nature of food crises in the region, Minister Armand De Decker is calling for the rapid implementation of durable structural solutions by the countries affected, working closely together with the main donors, including Belgium.
