Malawi risks losing access to EU market

The European Union has warned that market access regulation giving Southern Africa and Development Community (SADC) member states such as Malawi duty and quota-free access to its markets is expected to elapse soon. The expected elapse follows the delay in the finalisation of a comprehensive Economic Partnership (EPA) between the EU and SADC states. The warning comes at a time when Malawi, which is negotiating an EPA under the Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) grouping, has neither signed nor initialed interim EPAs.
