Cross-border cooperation project concluded in Liberia

A six-month project aimed at creating awareness among inter-state and cross-border women traders and state law enforcement agents has been concluded in Liberia. The project was not only geared towards non-state actors’ participation in the regional integration process but also sought to create customs union and common market in West Africa.

Implemented by Better Future Foundation (BFF), a local non-Governmental Organization (NGO), the project was awarded in 2010 by the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS Commission) as contracting authority. It was implemented by BFF with sponsorship of European Union’s 9th European Development Fund (EDF) for African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (ACP) Cooperation.

At least 869 persons including 597 Cross-border market women and 272 state law enforcement agents across Liberia benefited from the awareness campaign, which was officially launched at the Liberia Chamber of Commerce on Capitol Hill by Vice President Joseph Boakai on February 25, 2011.
