France Eyes Increasing Aid to Tanzania

The French Development Agency, or AFD, is planning to increase its financial aid to Tanzania from $70 million to $150 million, according to France’s ambassador to the African country. The increase is part of AFD’s efforts to boost economic cooperation between the two countries but it will depend on how the Tanzanian government manages the agency’s existing financial aid, Jacques Champagne said, according to The Citizen. “I believe that in the future AFD will increase its commitment to Tanzania in the range of $150 million per year, depending on how it is managed. This in turn, will help not only the development of Tanzania, but also strengthening the regional integration, which I believe will be the basis for further development and political stability,” Champagne said.
