EU gives more funding to Jamaica than any other LAC country

The European Union (EU) has given more funding to Jamaica in budget support last year than any other country in the Americas, outside of Haiti, because of its good track record in accountability, according to EU officials. Eighty four per cent of the 79 million euros granted by the EU last year, was allocated to budget support. The EU first opened its office in Jamaica in 1976 offering a development partnership which has evolved over the years, making it the main provider of grant funding to the country. EU funding is provided through two major channels namely the European Development Fund (EDF) and Budget line programmes. The EU has moved away from traditional projects to budget support which allows the Government greater flexibility over the use of resources.
