Swazi government to continue EPA negotiations with EU

The Swazi government will continue to engage the European Union (EU) with the view to conclude an inclusive economic partnership agreement (EPA). This would address the concerns raised by some members in the African region so that access for the continents’ products to the EU would not be jeopardised. Minister of Finance Majozi Sithole, during presentation of the 2011/12 budget speech in Parliament last Friday, said this was an effort to improve the export base and promote trade with other countries so that the country would participate in regional and international markets. Last month Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Jabulile Mashwama said the Southern African Development Community (SADC) was still formulating strategies for African member states for conclusion of the negotiations. She said negotiations were at an advanced stage and ultimately the EPA would be completed.
