Ashton appoints EEAS Africa director

British diplomat's appointment completes regional management of EEAS. Nicholas Westcott, the UK's ambassador to Ghana, has been appointed managing director for Africa in the European External Action Service. The appointment was announced by Catherine Ashton, the EU's foreign policy chief. Westcott is a British career diplomat who also currently serves as non-resident ambassador to Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Niger and Togo. He has spent most of his career working on African issues.
