Fish industry voices concern over foreign fish and falling prices

Concerns about foreign fish being sold in Europe and what to do about the future of Europe's fisheries industry were aired in a hearing held by the Fisheries Committee on 8 April. Over fishing, plunging stocks and falling prices have created a perfect storm battering the fisheries industry. Many of their representatives were in Brussels to set out their stall to MEPs. The hearing was held in response to a consultative Green Paper by the European Commission, which sets out a possible future course for Europe's Common Fisheries Policy. Over 40,000 people in the 27 countries of the European Union work in the industry and will be affected by the reforms.
