Civil society strategic to EU-Latin America relations, says EESC

Civil society must play a key role in strengthening the EU-Latin America bi-regional Strategic Partnership in order to step up political dialogue on shared global interests ranging from the environment and energy to global governance, migration, peace, security and better international regulation. This is the key message of an opinion adopted by the European Economic and Social Committee at its February plenary session. The opinion will provide a basis for the work of the Sixth meeting of civil society organisations from the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean, set to take place in Madrid from 5 to 7   May 2010. The EESC is organising this meeting as part of civil society's contribution to the next Summit of Heads of State and Government of the European Union and of Latin America and the Caribbean (EU-LAC Summit).
