Egypt announced Monday that the European Union had decided to allocate 15 million euros to African countries to set up joint funds to finance scientific research in the continent. The Egyptian program manager of research and development and innovation, Hamid Zuheiry told reporters Monday on the sidelines of a meeting of experts being held in Cairo to prepare for the Conference of African Ministers of science and technology, to be held in Cairo on Wednesday. He underlined that it was important that the ministerial conference agrees on strengthening intra-African cooperation in the fields of science and technology to achieve a comprehensive scientific renaissance of the continent. He also stressed on the need to manage financial resources provided by foreign parties to Africa, in particular the European Union, Japan, China and South Korea in order to achieve a comprehensive scientific renaissance of the continent.
