EU declaration on HIV/AIDS in South Africa

Today Minister for International Development Cooperation Gunilla Carlsson will present a special EU declaration on HIV/AIDS when she participates in World AIDS Day in Pretoria, South Africa, as representative of the Swedish Presidency of the European Union. The groups she will speak about include women and young people, but also groups at particular risk such as men who have sex with men, injecting drug users and people who sell and buy sex. “An effective response to HIV and AIDS requires full respect for all human rights. The right not to be subject to stigma and discrimination must be guaranteed. These populations must be seen, their voices must be heard, their needs must be met and their rights protected,” says Ms Carlsson.
