Closure: consular section of the French Embassy in Fiji from 1/12/2017

As part of the modernisation of the French diplomatic network, the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs has undertaken a study on its overseas representation. France needs to be able to respond to the challenges of a constantly changing world and to anticipate change in order to maintain its effectiveness, influence and global influence. Adapting our diplomatic network is also a way to adapt our human and budgetary resources to our strategic objectives, in a context where the Quai d’Orsay must continue to contribute to the overall effort to control costs and reduce public spending. France will maintain its diplomatic and consular network around the world: it will not therefore close any of its embassies. But a global presence means that missions that have hitherto been carried out indiscriminately by embassies and consulates-general all over the world must become more targeted. As a result, as of 1 December 2017, the traditional format of the French Embassy in Fiji will be reduced as in other locations. In this context, the consular section will be transferred to our Consulate General in Sydney where procedures concerning French nationals will have to be carried out from now on.
