Rwanda: Non-Profit in Rwanda for Off-Grid Electricity

SIDA, the Swedish aid agency, is paying for Energy 4 Impact to roll out a new off-grid renewable energy support programme in Rwanda. The programme started in July and ends in June 2019. According to a release, it is designed to support government priorities to reduce poverty and increase energy access in rural areas. The Rwanda government targets to increase access to electricity to 70% by 2018 out of which 22% will be through off grid connections. As off now, off grid connections account for less than 2%. The programme will comprise the Renewable Energy Small Projects (RESP) Development Facility which will accelerate the development and growth of small isolated mini-grid RESP projects, including solar mini-grids and projects based on other renewable energy approaches. Energy 4 Impact (formerly known as GVEP International) is a non-profit organisation working to alleviate poverty in developing countries through increased access to sustainable, renewable energy. It backs the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises that deliver energy products and services to the poor. Energy 4 Impact works to provide access to energy where large utilities are slow or unable to reach [...] Energy 4 Impact is working with the agriculture ministry and its subsidiary Boards like the Rwanda Agriculture Board and the Ministry of Local Governments to implement this.
