EU funds safe water project in 150 Senegalese villages

The non-governmental organisation, World Vision International, has received 3,558,234 Euros (about US$4,690,000) from the European Commission, towards a Water Facility project in Senegal. The funding, which is part of the European Union’s project for safe water access in ACP countries (ACP-EU Water Facility) will help to supply water, by 2010, to 150 villages in various regions (Louga, Thies, Diourbel, Fatick, Kaolack and Kolda) of Senegal. The World Vision International Senegal office has so far drilled 657 boreholes fitted with manual, solar, or power-driven pumps. The NGO has also undertaken other community development activities in areas including health, nutrition, education, food security, capacity building and micro-finance.
