Zambia: E-vouchers to curb agri corruption

The Zambian government plans to introduce an electronic voucher (e-voucher) system as part of its Farmer Input Support programme in a bid to stop corruption in the distribution of farming inputs. With the new system vouchers can be activated and redeemed via the e-platform. Zambia's minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Given Lubinda said the government will launch the mobile and tracking system to distribute subsidised seeds and fertilizer through private suppliers to farmers. It will be initially launched as pilot projects in 13 districts. This system shall facilitate gathering data, tracking best practice and provide an opportunity for replication based on its successes, to improve crop yields and farmers livelihoods.
