EU-Africa: review of cotton partnership in Benin

The Steering and Follow-up Committee of the EU-Africa Partnership on Cotton held its 20th session to examine the progress made so far in the implementation of ACP-EU action program for cotton development in Africa. Around 200 delegates from African cotton producing countries, African union, African regional economic communities, African cotton-grower professional associations, private sector, European union, and other development partners were present. A pan-African road-map on cotton was drawn up from the session. It represents a strategic document for sustainable solutions to the challenges faced by African cotton sector at national, regional and continental levels. The EU-Africa Partnership on Cotton was established in July 2004 and it has received €570 million in subsidies (70% from the EU).
