China Supports Africa's Public Health System Development

The Chinese government expresses readiness to support the establishment of African Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (ACDCP) which is believed to be a milestone for the development of African public health system.

Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Xie Xiaoyan told journalists yesterday that the Chinese national health delegation and Centre for Disease Control and Prevention is supporting Africa on how to establish African CDC at the desired time. The ambassador said that Chinese intellectual support will be availed in the future to help AU and African countries to establish the Center as quickly as possible.

He said that this is another reflection of China's strong commitment to enhance cooperation with African brothers and sisters in the fight against Ebola epidemic and the building of Pan- African public health system.

AU Social Affairs Department Director Ambassador Olawale. I. Maoyegum on his part said that the delegation from Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention was frank and cooperative as witnessed in the efforts that have already been made to establish ADCP. According to him, the fund to form African CDC will be secured from the Member States.

He said that the Chinese government is fully involved in Africa's effort to establish CDC which could organize countries engagement in the fight against Ebola and other unprecedented epidemics. He said:"We got quite a good contribution from China in the fight against Ebola. The Chinese contribution is really significant. And we believe they will support us more."He also said the Chinese help came since the WHO and AU declared Ebola as chronic epidemic disease which needs international community's engagement.
