Danish investment in agriculture in Africa

The Minister of Trade and Development Danish Mogens Jensen, has announced the launch of an agricultural investment fund dedicated to trade investment in agriculture in developing countries and particularly in Africa. Soeren Gade, Head of Agriculture and Food at the Danish Board (an industrial lobby), said that the Danish food companies were prepared to face the challenge with knowledge accumulated over generations on the topic.
“Eradicate world hunger is not an easy task, but it can be done,” added Mr. Jensen. Danish farmers and producers of foodstuffs possess extensive knowledge and expertise in terms of implementing a sustainable food production, and this can be used to help fight against hunger on the African continent,” he said.
Initially, the funds will have a capital of 40 million DKK and will be mainly dedicated to African farmers. The Danish Ministry of Trade and Development hopes to invest 900 million DKK (167.3 million USD) in the African agricultural production, by attracting the Danish pension funds and other investors.
Soeren Gade, Head of the Danish Board of Agriculture and Food is confident about the support of farmers of foodstuffs in this project.
