Clock ticking for Fiji to ratify interim EPA

Fiji’s has until 01 October to ratify the interim Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the European Union.
This means Fiji Sugar Industry will cease to enjoy current benefits if Government does not ratify the agreement.
Fiji literally has six months to ratify the interim Economic Partnership Agreement with the European Union.
Currently, Fiji has quota free access to the EU market.
This simply means our industry is also protected against sugar producers from non ACP and Least Developed Countries like Brazil and Thailand. The consequences of losing that preferential access will be costly.
But that’s not to say there isn’t a plan B should Fiji miss out.
There’s even the option of a regional agreement.
Fiji has until 01 October to ratify the interim EPA.
