Joint Ministerial Statement to Support Family Farming

A joint ministerial statement dealing with supporting family farming has been signed by 21 agriculture ministers from various EU, African and South American countries (including Brazil, the Czech Republic, Ivory Coast, Mali, Portugal and Spain). This development took place in the sidelines of the 'Salon International de Agriculture' which took place in Paris, France, and commits the signatories, along with the FAO, to support family farming by implementing favourable policies. Stéphane Le Foll, French Minister for Agriculture spoke of sustainable agricultural production, and the need to expand the list of signatories in order to tackle the issue of world hunger through family farming. A Global Forum and exhibition on family farming was held in Budapest, Hungary, from 4 to 6 March 2014, thus launching 2014 International Year of Family Farming.
